Songza and GoogleGoogle purchased Songza today for an undisclosed amount. Songza employs music creators who make playlists for almost any conceivable occasion.

Google said in a statement, “over the coming months, we’ll explore ways to bring what you love about Songza to Google Play Music. We’ll also look for opportunities to bring their great work to the music experience on YouTube and other Google products.” Google is not planning any immediate changes to the Songza apps.

Songza and Beats Music are similar in that they both have music experts curating playlists continuously. Now they are both owned by two of todays tech giants, Google and Apple respectively. Time will tell if these recent purchases help get Google and Apple’s streaming music subscriber numbers closer to Pandora’s 77 million users.
