Beats Soul and Funk genreSounds Like Motown is todays quirky playlist from Beats Music. No, it is not the classic Motown artists from the 1960’s, rather the artists that tried to emulate their sound.

The Beats Soul/Funk genre has assembled a playlist of songs that could not boast of coming from the Motown label, but tried their hardest to have that characteristic Motown sound.  What, you may ask, is that Motown sound? Joe Tangari of Beats Music has a handle on it. He writes that it’s a “cosmopolitan soul sound built around a whomping backbeat, bouncing bass lines, call-and-response vocals, and sophisticated orchestration.”
